BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China has never manipulated its exchange rate for international trade benefits, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu Tuesday.

　　Jiang was speaking in response to a question on China's attitude towards the U.S. government's delay of a report on exchange rate policies to the Congress.

　　U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said on Saturday that he would delay the report to the Congress which was originally scheduled on April 15.

　　Jiang said the Renminbi (RMB) exchange rate was not the major cause of the U.S. trade deficit with China and the RMB's appreciation would not solve the Sino-U.S. trade imbalance.

　　"We hope the U.S. side can view the problem from an objective and reasonable perspective," she said, adding China had always stood for resolving bilateral trade frictions through candid dialogue and pragmatic coordination.
