Chinese Super League winner Shandong Luneng beat Adelaide United 1-0 thanks to an own goal in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday.

Shandong went ahead in the 47th minute on Michael Valkanis' own goal - a deflection into the net at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.

After Shandong earned its first corner of the match early in the second half, Li Jinyu rose to meet the ball, but his glancing header was going wide before it connected with the thigh of Valkanis and bobbled past powerless Adelaide goalkeeper Daniel Beltrame.

Both teams have two weeks to prepare for their second games of the tournament on March 21, with Adelaide traveling to Vietnam to take on Dong Tam Long An and Shandong entertaining South Korean side Seongnam Chunma.
