  East China iron ore mine flood traps 21 underground  

  

 

Twenty four miners were trapped in a flooded iron ore mine in east China's Shandong Province, the rescue command center said Monday.

JINAN, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Twenty four miners were trapped in a flooded iron ore mine in east China's Shandong Province, the rescue command center said Monday.

Previously, 21 miners were believed to be trapped in the mine.

A total of 31 miners were working underground when the accident happened, and seven of them managed to escape, the rescue command center said after a further check.

The mine in the district of Fangzi in Weifang City was flooded around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Rescue of the miners is still under way by Monday night.
